UTAS-Ibra holds the First National Symposium on Post-Pandemic ELT

The English Language Centre of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) – Ibra, in association with TESOL Oman, conducted the First National Symposium on Post-Pandemic ELT: From Reflection to Action Research on the 2nd of June 2022, with the aim to create a platform for teachers of English to reflect on their experiences and solutions to the problems that they encountered in ELT during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The symposium was organized by Dr. Kodhandaraman Chinnathambi, the symposium convenor, and graced by Dr. Salim Saeed Bani Orabah, Head of the English Language Centre, Dr. Yousuf Khamis Hamed Al-Mabsali, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Fatma Nasser Maso'ud Al-Harthy, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

The symposium began with the keynote address by Professor Ali Al-Issa on “The Sketching of Radical Teacher Professionalism at SQU”. Following this, Dr. Justin James (UTAS-Nizwa) delivered his speech on “Teaching English Language to Digital Natives in the Post-Pandemic Scenario”. After a short break, Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Manthari (HoC-ELC, UTAS-Ibri), Dr. Mohsen Amiri (UTAS-Ibri), Dr. Aldrin L. Apolonio (UTAS-Shinas), Ms. Valerie Lewis (UTAS-Al-Musannah) and 21 lecturers in English from UTAS-Ibra presented their research papers in the concurrent sessions related to language acquisition, teaching, teaching technology, assessment, extra -curricular activities, and research. 77 lecturers from ELC, UTAS-Ibra participated in the Symposium.

The event was officially closed by Dr. Salim Bani Orabah in a closing ceremony where involvement of the speakers, participants, and facilitators was appreciated and acknowledged.
