The IEEE ICT student branch organized a National level webinar entitled “Intelligent Electric Vehicle Charging System” on 07.10.2020 from 05.00 PM to 06.00 PM.
The resource person of the webinar was Dr.Javeed Ahmed Khan, Professor, Georgian College, Canada. The event was organized by IEEE-ICT Student Branch in coordination with IEEE Oman Section. IEEE-ICT Student branch webinar organizing committee include Mr.K.Shamganth, IEEE-Branch Counsellor, Mr. V. Loganathan, IEEE-ICT SB Event Coordinator, Ms.K.Santoshi, IEEE-Professional member, Eng Dept, Mr.P.Ramesh, IEEE-Professional member, IT Dept and Dr.N.Praveen, member organizing Committee, Eng Dept.
This webinar provided detailed information on the intelligent charging techniques for electric vehicles. The speaker explained about the importance of charging system in present context and the necessity to have an intelligent charging system. He also explained the chemical reactions involved in the charging process. The method of processing the data obtained from sensors were explained during the session. Different types of standard charging systems like Level 1, 2 and 3 chargers were explained. The increase in power requirement due to electric vehicles was emphasized and the ability of the grid to handle this increased demand was also discussed in this session.
The block diagram of the Intelligent Electric Vehicle Charging System (IEVCS) implemented in Canada was briefed by the resource person. The ability of the IEVCS controllers and its operation was explained along with its advantages and disadvantages. It shows that implementation of IEVCS technique reduced investment on grid infrastructure and optimized the existing grid with time of usage tariff structure. But it needs extra maintenance. Totally 27 participants joined the event from different IEEE Student branches operating in various Academic institutions in Oman.
