Dr. CK Chairs a Session and Presents a Paper at SQU’s 4th International Conference on Language, Linguistics, Literature, and Translation

The Department of English Language and Literature, Sultan Qaboos University, Conducted a three-day International Conference on Language, Linguistics, Literature, and Translation from the 6th of February 2020 to the 8th of February 2020.

Keynote speakers for the three days were Prof. David Damrosch (Harvard University, USA), Prof. (Emeritus) Alister Cumming, (University of Toronto, Canada) and Prof. Reem Bassiouney (The American University in Cairo, Egypt). There were about 100 presenters from 25 countries. This was a standout conference.

Dr. Kodhandaraman Chinnathambi was invited to chair session-5 entitled “Professional Translation” on Friday. He encouraged a lively discussion in the session that was enriching to the participants. The presenters for the session were from Princes Noura University (KSA), Michigan State University (USA) and Dhofar University (Oman). They dealt with intercultural linguistic challenges and issues in translation.

Dr. Kodhandaraman also presented a paper entitled "Interactions and Intersections in Canadian First Nations’ Literature: A Transpostcolonial Approach" in session 2 entitled "Crossing Paths in Literature" on Thursday. In his presentation, he pointed to the epistemic violence in academia and the need to move beyond the method and framework that postcolonialism offers with reference to the Canadian context.

The conference offered a truly international experience. High quality research papers, time allotment for sessions, and international cuisine were the highlights of the conference.
