ProQuest Training / Workshop

Higher College of Technology, in collaboration with ProQuest, organized a one-day hands-on training session for Librarians of Technological Colleges on 21st January 2019. Selected team from Main Library and Self – Access Centre together with the Head of Educational Centre and Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs attended the training in Higher College Technology.

The training started with a welcome speech from the organizer followed by presentation of how ProQuest is committed to empower the researchers and librarians. In addition, the speaker provides a head start about ProQuest Central, ProQuest Dissertation and Thesis and Academic Central, in between the presentations, attendees asked questions regarding ProQuest and each was answered accordingly.

The training lasted for 2-hours which discussed the searching techniques of materials such as basic and advanced searches and how to narrow down the criteria to give a precise search results. The trainer also provides an idea about citing, sharing, reading online and downloading a material. Downloading a material from ProQuest has limitations such as the whole material can be downloaded and used for 21 days only using a special reader which is a proprietary of ProQuest. Chapter download is also available and with no expiration in usage. ProQuest accounts has no limitations, staff and students can register to use other function such as saving ProQuest materials to library for future reference.

Aside from the training provided, ProQuest representatives assure that any information and training needed by any Technological College, ProQuest representatives will be at service.

Overall, the training / workshop purpose of introducing and showcasing the features of ProQuest was a success and will be very useful alternative for staff and students research.
