Ibra College of Technology once again held its annual Open Day showcasing the talents and skills of ICT students. Compared to the previous Open Day celebration, this year’s activity brought a lot of challenge and excitement to the students since visitors from the industry came to see their projects. It also paved a road of opportunities for the students for their future career with these companies.
The Open Day celebration was held on 10, May 2017 which was started with a ribbon cutting headed by the College Dean, Dr. Azzah Ahmed Said Al Maskari. Accompanied by numerous guests, she proudly introduced them various projects of the students for the past semesters. Students from IT, Engineering and Business Studies department presented their projects and artworks. Among the guests were delegates from the Port of Duqm, Oman Drydock Company LLC, and Oman Wanfang Company LLC – all based in Duqm Industrial Area.
The projects showcased by the students caught the attention of the guests companies and openly discussed with them about the technology being used in the projects. It includes the best project from Engineering Department which was awarded as best project by government agencies and universities in Muscat. Likewise, the departments of Information Technology and Business Studies also presented their accomplished project. Project of Engineering Students Hajer Khamis Al-Gheilani and Houda Mohammed Humaid Al-Harthy was again awarded as the best project during the ceremony. Their project was entitled Android Based Voice Controlled Robot which was also won third place in Al-Roya Project Competition German University which was held on 18th December 2016.
The College Council had a meeting with the Industry representatives where in, the guests expressed their interests to bring the students of ICT into their field of work by giving them OJT program to enable the students experience the work environment in their companies. The Oman Wanfang LLC, an investor and operator of China-Oman (Duqm) Industrial Park extended its sincerest appreciation on their wonderful experience in visiting the College and promised to discuss further training of ICT students in their related fields. The whole ICT team especially the Dean were very excited to hear the willingness of the companies to accommodate and train ICT students.
