Oman's first and leading integrated telecommunications services provider (Omantel), enabling the digital society to flourish, allowing new ways of doing business while delivering a world of information and entertainment right to your fingertips has given an opportunity for 13 IT students (Advanced Diploma – Networking) to visit their premises 0n 30th Jan 2018. This visit was arranged by OJT & Industrial Link Committee of IT Department.

This visit sets out the technical specifications of Omantel Network. The ITU-T recommendations applied was given as a demonstration. They have explained the PNT, Broad band, 2G, 3G and 4G network. The Connection of Omantel E1 interfaces with the Requesting Party E1 interfaces using proper over voltage and lightning protection measures are observed. Common earthing for both Omantel and the Requesting Part equipment with E1 interfaces described.

With regard to Internet communication, they have given a clear demonstration about accessing the Internet, the broadband connection is routed from the Customer connectivity to Omantel aggregation router and further via the Omantel IP backbone and reaches the AAA server at the Requesting Party’s premises. After authentication the Customer is assigned the required resources for full access to the Internet. The Requesting Party bills the Customer for the Service and for the traffic usage. Also they described about the Omantel Data Centers connected to Omantel operated Cable Landing Stations and Earth Station as such provides access to all Omantel offered international connectivity Services through submarine cables and satellites respectively.

In our quest for the provision of quality education and to contribute to the national development endeavors of the Sultanate, this industrial visit finds a way for our students to acquire a job market relevant knowledge and industrial experiences for their future both inside and outside the college.

Students got exposure to the real time environment of telecommunication. Omantel staff members extended their excellent services during their busy schedule by engaging our ICT students as part of their growth.
