Technocrats Vol. 2 Issue 3
The Ministry of Manpower organized and held the 2nd Oman Skills Competition at Ibra College of Technology on 8-12 May, 2010 for the purpose of enhancing the collaboration and quality of students’ skills in the field of Web Design, IT PC & Network Support, IT/Office Software Application, and Graphics Design Technology.
The seven colleges of technology had the privilege to share their expertise in a year-long, strenuous preparation for students and their respective experts; they were from Al-Mussana College of Technology, Higher College of Technology, Ibra College of Technology, Ibri College of Technology, Nizwa College of Technology, Salalah College of Technology, and Shinas College of Technology. A total of 26 students and 28 experts participated in the activity.
As day-one passed, contestants were faced with tedious challenges and intense level of maintaining high marks. But they seemed not to falter because of the relentless encouragements from their trainers.
On the last day, the ICT Organizing Committee prepared the glorious awarding ceremony at the Main Hall. It was honored by Waleed bin Yaqoob Al Saadi, the Directorate General of Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in the North Sharqiya Region, the patron of the event, and was also graced by Dr. Abdul Hakim Hilal Majid Al Ismaeli, the Directorate General of Technological Education of the Ministry of Manpower.
The ceremony started with the welcome remarks of Dr. Abdullah Adim Khalid Al Maskari, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs. In his opening, he extended his thanks to the Ministry of Manpower and the organizers of the contest. He added that the competition provided a challenge and a wonderful experience to the young people and their coaches to achieve the highest level of standard to quality education. He also welcomed ICT staff and students, and participants from the other colleges of technology who were in the audience.
A remarkable speech was also delivered from one of the student participants. She expressed her gratitude to the organizers for the hospitality and the full support given during the five-day activity. She also said that the competition has given them more confidence and established lasting friendship with other students and experts from the participating colleges.
Afterwards, the top three winners of each category proudly received their plaques, followed by the awarding of certificates to other contestants. Moreover, the ICT Oman Skills Committee members were also given certificate of appreciation for their undying support and commitment to the five-day event.

The above three winners in each category will vie to the preliminary round to select one candidate to qualify for the GCC Level Skills Competition on November 2010. Then the winners of the GCC level will have the privilege to compete in the International Skills Competition to be held in United Kingdom on 2011.
9th March, 2010, Ibra College of Technology (ICT) Graduation Ceremony took place at the constructed tent at the ICT grounds. With college administrators and staff, deans from various colleges, parents and relatives of the graduates, visitors from private sectors, other honorable guests and 366 graduates, the place was jam-packed. ICT managed to come up with a picturesque well-put-together venue with decorated posts and chandeliers and even bedecked the “walk” with a red carpet.
The graduates were from: Engineering, Business Studies, and Information Technology departments at the Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma levels.
They were from the second batch of 2008-2009 and the first batch of 2009-2010.
The occasion was graced by His Excellency Ahmad Bin Yousef Al Harthy, the Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), as the sponsor of the ceremony, and His Excellency Hamad Bin Khamis Al Aamri, the Undersecretary for Technological Education & Vocational Training (Ministry of Manpower).
The ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Qur’an followed by the welcome speech of Dr. Qassim Murtadha AL-Mar'áshi, College Dean. In his speech, he emphasized that Ibra College of Technology is pursuing to upgrade the quality and quantity of teaching to provide the Omani labour market with the qualified graduates of different specializations, through the various programs and activities offered by this college.
There were also two remarkable speeches from the graduates. They were thankful to the College for molding them to be responsible and helping them improve in their respective fields of endeavor. With the imparted knowledge, they felt prepared to shape Oman.
Afterwards, graduates proudly received their certificates, the fruits of their effort and patience. During the distribution, students with excellent academic record were also recognized.
In a raffle, twelve lucky graduates were given gifts sponsored by Bank Sohar.
To make the event more memorable, the Educational Technology Centre (ETC) implemented an online, live video streaming, embedded in the college website, which was observed through the World Wide Web by 80 concurrent users.
All in all, the evening ended with a few tears of joy, reminiscent of all the good times together and marking the new era of change for all.
The 2nd Annual Ibra College of Technology (ICT) Sports Day 2010 was a grand success with the help of all staff and students. One week strenuous practice and a month-long elimination games since December 2009 culminated in this glorious event.
The actual Sports Day Opening, centering on the theme of sportsmanship and camaraderie was held on March 1, 2010 at the ELC Basketball Court.
In the opening ceremony, Dr. Qassim Murthada Al-Mar’ashi, College Dean gave the formal declaration of the events followed by the spectacular performance of the different departments/centres which showcased their team cheers. This was followed by 22 games: badminton/shuttle, cricket, basketball, billiard, table tennis, volleyball, football, chess, carom, dart, tug-of-war, marathon, etc.
As the games took their courses, individual games and teams rumbled and showed what they were really made of. Participants showed their own brilliance when they outclassed their toughest rivals and stood proud until the end of the sporting event.
The whole celebration was concluded and the honors finally served to the best and the brightest teams and athletes in the sport competition. In the awarding ceremony held at the Open Auditorium from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Dr. Abdullah Adim Khalid Al-Maskari, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Mrs. Fatma Nasser Al-Harthy, Assistant Dean for Students Affairs gave away the medals and prizes.
The 9th of June 2009 marked another significant institutional milestone for Ibra College of Technology as it held its graduation ceremony
in a constructed tent inside the college premise. This event symbolized a moment of victory and marked a turning point of
the graduates from merely wading to fully immersing in the road of success.
One hundred eighty seven (187) students, comprising the second group of Batch 2007-2008 and first group of Batch 2008-2009,
were conferred as graduates. Ninety two (92), thirty five (35), and sixty (60) of them were from the Engineering,
Information Technology, and Business Studies Department, respectively.
The event was attended by more than 800 participants, including college administrators and staff, deans from various
colleges, parents and relatives of the graduates, representatives from the private sectors, and distinguished guests.
His Excellency Mohammed Khamis Al Uraimi, Undersecretary for Ministry of Environment & Climate Affairs was the patron of
the ceremony. Another honored guest, His Excellency Hamad Bin Khamis Al-Aamri, Ministry of Manpower Undersecretary for
Technological Education & Vocational Training also graced the ceremony.
The ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Qur’an. Then, it was followed by the speech of Dr. Qassim Murtadha
AL-Mar'áshi, College Dean and two remarkable speeches from the graduates - one in English and the other in Arabic version.
Afterwards, a comprehensive presentation which highlights some achievements and treasured moments of the graduates’ life in
the college was shown. Finally, they proudly received their diploma, the fruits of their effort and patience.
During the diploma distribution, students with excellent academic performances were recognized. Amazingly, three raffle stubs were
drawn from the list of graduates. Each of the winners, two (2) male and one (1) female graduates was given a brand new laptop sponsored
by one of the partner companies, Bahwan IT. Lastly, with the implementation of the ICT online video streaming, the ceremony was made more
memorable. This was realized through the initiative of the Educational Technology Centre (ETC). People around the world had the opportunity to
view the event as it unfolded.

As one audience said, “The event was a rewarding presentation, an experience worth watching!”
On the 26th October, 2009 the evening bloomed at the Open Auditorium of Ibra College of Technology. It was watched by ICT staff, students, and guest from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
With the presence of Dr. Abdullah Adim Khalid Al Maskari, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Mrs. Fatma Al Harty, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Office, it aimed to foster good relationship among the students and to encourage them to develop their skills and talents in joining such events.
In the event, participants enchanted the crowd as the new Music society together with musical instruments mesmerized the audience with their euphonic rhythm. Other students also moved the hearts of spectators and put their feet on jumping in their performance of the Yola, a popular traditional dance. Some students also showcased their theatrical talents about the H1N1 virus and a role-play to motivate students to participate in different activities in the college. The same topic was also the orientation and encouragement of the different college societies from the Information Technology, Engineering, Business, and English Language Centre.
Likewise, the lively audience participated in the question and answer game; and a texting contest made the event more exciting to mobile users.
Indeed, it was a night to be remembered and it was dubbed as the ICT Cultural Night.

ICT football players emerged as the top winner of the Beach Soccer Tournament in during the Muscat Festival 2009,
which was attended by numerous teams.
The team consist of Saad bin Abdullah bin Mubarak AL-Sa'idi, Basil bin Juma Al
Gheilani, Mohammed bin Said Al-Alawi, Salim Bin Mohammed Al-Alawi, Muawiya ibn Khalid AL-Mahdi, Badr bin Rabee’a AL-Alawi,
Muhammad Ali AL-WLWI, Mahmoud bin Said Al Araimi, Khalid bin Sulayem Almekheni, and Khamis Juma bin AlSinani.
Ibra College of Technology has organized an Open Day on 16th June, 2009. The event was prepared and planned through the
efforts of the Student Affairs Office headed by Assistant Dean, Mrs. Fatma Al-Harthy.
It was well participated by different student societies from IT, Engineering, Business Department and the English Language
Centre (ELC). The Educational Technology Centre (ETC) also participated with selected, competent students under its student
development program, particularly, the Enhancement Practical Training (EPT) and On-The-Job Training (OJT) students from other colleges.
A short program in the ICT Main Hall started the event. Dr. Qassim Murtadha Al-Mar'áshi, College Dean, warmly welcomed the student
participants, staff, visitors, respected guests and Dr. Abdul Hakeem Hilal Majid Al-Ismaili, Directorate General of Technological Education,
the chief patron of the event. It was noted that the college had been keen on creating a student-centered learning environment conducive to
the intellectual and personal growth of students, and this event would give them the necessary experience for skills enhancement and competency
to unleash their talent in presentation, event management, and in the field of arts. It was followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony at ME108 by
chief patron, together with the ICT College Dean and was witnessed by present students and staff.
The unique exhibition featured student innovative projects in their respective field of endeavor, art works, and proud traditional products of Oman.
It became more surprising to visitors that during the tour, participating students were the actual presenters of their exhibit and some even showcased
its operation and functions.
In coordination with the Ministry of Health, a blood donation program was also conducted and leaflets were given as information drive for
the H1N1 (Swine Flu) and other health issues. Moreover, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry also participated in disseminating information
about business concerns within the region and the whole of Oman.
In the afternoon, a reporter from Oman TV covered the event and interviewed participating students and staff and made footage about the exhibits.
Another highlight was the evening program, which displayed students and staff’s extraordinary talents in theatrical presentation, particularly acting,
traditional dance, and singing.
Finally, certificates and commendations were given to students who participated in the open day activities, by Dr. Abdullah Adim Khalid Al Maskari,
Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Mrs. Fatma Al-Harthy, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
