Primarily, ETC (Educational Technology Centre) supports the educational mission of the college by providing technological resources and technical services among the staff. As a centre, it becomes the backbone of the college and serves as a hub for the exploration, development and dissemination of technology to enhance teaching and learning at Sultanate of Oman.
Being spearheaded by Mr. Robin Rohit Vincent, the centre takes pride on its commitment of excellence by achieving high standards of quality in training and technology-based technical services as to meet the continuing demands of the society.
Currently, there are 43 active staff members who have been informed of their duties and responsibilities. The Head of the Centre is the one who supervises the technical and administrative work of the 3 sections where CSS has the large number of staff having a total of 32 members followed by 8 for ESS and 2 for LSS.
The staff members are then assigned based on their specializations with 42% specialized in Hardware/Networking, 12% in Web Design, and the remaining 46% is distributed accordingly in Programming, Library, Database, Photocopy, Web Programming, Multimedia, Graphics, and Photography.
One of the significant services is the full technical support and maintenance of 13 computer laboratories that can be utilized for daily lab sessions and activities while the free-access laboratory for the students is provided with Internet access. In fact, majority of the ETC staff having 38% is assigned to computer laboratory support. The centre also acquires state-of-the-art equipment in various resource locations of the college, which may include the 3 high-end printing and 8 multi-functional photocopying machines in the Publishing Centre, 21 sophisticated servers in the Network Control Room, 15 installed biometric scanners in most of the computer laboratories and in server room, 86 active IP phones and 80 installed CCTV cameras within the college.
In addition, there are approximately 4,000 book copies and 54 instructional discs available in the college library. In ELC, SAC has 1,900 books, 102 copies of instructional discs, and 377 educational audio/video cassette tapes. All of these resources are well supported by the qualified staff where the 56% of the total active staff members has at least 10 years of teaching and industry experience.
