On-the-Job Training
The main objective of on-the-job training is to acquaint the students with the real work place environment. This will help them explore the relationship between the knowledge & skills acquired in the college with those required in the working situations. This enables students to understand and respond better to the market demands. Student on OJT will be like an employee under training, therefore he will follow all the rules and regulations of the company / concern. They may be:
- Compulsory attendance – 300 hours (8 to 12 weeks)
- Safety rules and regulations
- Dress code
- Allotted timings
- 5 or 6 days of training per week
During OJT the student has to work for 8 hours per day and must also cover all the goals, objectives and outcomes at the required level as per the training schedule. The staff member/s and an assigned supervisor of the company / concern will be jointly involved in the continuous evaluation, assessment and grading of the student. There will be assessment forms based on standardized assessment system for all the departments of the Colleges of Technology. The weightage of each OJT level amounts to 3 credit hours and the grade achieved will not contribute towards the overall GPA. Successful completion of the OJT 1, 2 or 3 with a minimum of 300 hours each of actual training will entitle the student for the award of a diploma, higher diploma or degree respectively provided that s/he also completes 6-12 weeks of ‘Enhancement / Practical Training (EPT).
Levels, Time & Duration On-the-Job Training (OJT) at the Colleges of Technology is offered at three different levels of 8 weeks full time course of 3 credit hours for each level.

Enhancement Practical Training (EPT)
The OJT is followed by Enhancement / Practical Training (EPT) for the exiting students including certificate level. The EPT is conducted only once inside the college for 6-12 weeks with a minimum period of 240 hours of actual training. The students are trained in the skills that they could not practice during OJT as well as the skills that need more tuning related to the job market. They also acquire new relevant skills and ‘Occupational Competences’ based on self reliant, trainee centered, project based approach where assessor/s will work as guide/s, advisor/s, or facilitator/s.
The College organizes job fairs, industrial exhibitions, seminars and guest lectures to enhance the awareness about recent market trends with the active participation of the industrial and business sectors. A mutual understanding may be reached between the colleges and the private and public sectors under the auspices of Ministry of Manpower, to organize special / upgrading courses in different fields to the employees of the industrial sector, availing of the facilities at the colleges as well as setting up of a simulation centers for Enhancement / Practical training programs. This will enhance the cooperation between the technical colleges and the private and public sectors.
