Industrial Visit Provides Overview of Cement Manufacturing Process

The Department of Engineering, Mechanical Section organized an Industrial visit for Architectural Engineering students to Oman Cement Company (S.A.O.G.) at the Rusayl industrial area on 11th February 2013. The two Architectural Engineering lecturers, Ms. Nasreen Kauser and Mr. Abdulkarim Jafar escorted 35 students registered for the course Materials & Methods of Construction to this industrial visit.
Oman Cement Company CRC Lab-in-charge, Mr. Abdulla Saif Al-Sayabi explained the detailed cement manufacturing process, from selection of mountains for quarrying, excavation of raw materials and the different manufacturing phases involved until the final product is completed.
Mr. Abdul Aziz Al-Moqabi and Mr. Said Al-Haktali demonstrated and explained among the students the advanced techniques of analyzing the quality, strength and standard of cement in their X-ray and Physical laboratories.
After the lecture sessions, a guided tour ensued. Students witnessed the different factory machineries used in the actual production of cement.
The students gained lots of information on this visit. They even got samples of all the raw materials and clinkers they will need for preparing a technical report for this visit.
