"Multisim Workshop for High School Physics Teachers", an activity conducted by IEEE-ICT Student Branch at Sumaiyah High School on February 21, 2012, has been selected and nominated for the prestigious Darell Chong Student Activity Award, one of the major awards given by IEEE international office to outstanding student branch activity every year.

The good news was received by Mr. Arnold N. Santos, IEEE-ICT Student Branch Counselor, through a congratulatory encouragement e-mail send by Mr. Piotr Graca, Awards and Contests Coordinator of IEEE Region 8 Students’ Activities Committee, on January 28, 2013.

The Darell Chong Student Activity Award, whose main purpose is to change the mindset of the student groups from being number-driven to becoming value-driven, seeks to acknowledge the exemplary student activities around the world. Its goal is to improve the quality of activities and to foster knowledge sharing among students. Ultimately, the initiative is targeted at improving student-membership growth. This will encourage and motivate students to continue to innovate and implement meaningful ideas.

Each nominated IEEE student activity will be categorized and judged on the following criteria: problem recognition, relevance to IEEE value, creativity, quality of the outcomes and changing student mindset. The winners will be announced on April 2013.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Naamany, Chairman and Dr. Amer Al-Hinai, Vice-Chairman of IEEE-Oman section, were very delighted upon hearing the news. They lauded IEEE-ICT Student Branch for this outstanding feat despite the fact that it was just organized two years ago. They both motivated the student branch to continue working hard and contribute to the development and global transformation of Oman.
